Seal Rescue Ireland – Community Conservation Training

Seal Rescue Ireland have been in touch to offer all our residents the opportunity to take part in their Community Conservation Training.  It is coming into pupping season and although we are blessed to have the opportunity to see these wonderful creatures up close, I know some of our regular beachgoers can dread the idea that the beach might be closed off for weeks or months if a pup is born on the beach.  However, after speaking with the team from SRI they feel there should be no need to close off the beach as long as we adhere to the guidelines in the attached infographic and keep dogs on leads. I think this will be welcome news to everyone.

Please see below information on the community training they are offering, they also said they will do a live pup release exclusively for golf club members and residents later in the year.

SRI Community Conservation Training:
This training consists of a one-hour virtual presentation (via Zoom) focused on training participants on personal actions to improve the health of the environment, as well as directly protect wildlife from disturbance. It gives a comprehensive overview of what disturbance means and actions you can take to protect and monitor your local seal population. This training will empower local community members to proactively protect seals from human disturbance, encourage others to do the same, and how to report other points of interest to SRI such as: tagged seals, entangled seals, dead seals and pupping activities. We would love to offer this training for free to any Blainroe Residents and Club Members interested in taking part!

If you would like to take part in the training, please get in touch by emailing blainroeestate@outlook.com and we will let you know dates and times as soon as they are confirmed.
